Ter Maat, Diefenbach, Koelewijn block away for Dutch win

Thomas Koelewijn celebrates after another successful block

Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, June 10, 2017 – Three Dutch blockers imposed their will over the net as the Netherlands mastered a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-15) shutout of hosts Czech Republic in an FIVB Volleyball World League match in Ceske Budejovice.

Wouter Ter Maat, Jasper Diefenbach and Thomas Koelewijn walled up five, four and three kill blocks, respectively, to earn the respect of the Czech spikers. The former topped the scorers’ chart of the match with a total of 19 points. Robbert Andringa added another 10, while Czechia’s biggest point contributor was Jan Hadrava with nine.

The Dutch have now won six of their seven World League meetings with the Czech Republic.

The first set started well for the Czechs as they showed that they were ready to stand up to their powerful opponents. They led by two points before the Netherlands shifted gears and the Czech team had small chances to live up to the task. The Dutch won the first set by a comfortable 25-19.

The second set was similar to the first. The Netherlands held close advantage against the Czech Republic. The Czechs had an obvious problem with the reception of the stable float-serves of the Netherlands and the Dutch had enough time to place their blocks exactly where needed, which helped them score on and on. The team of the Netherlands was too good for the Czechs in this set – 25-15.

The third set started better for the Czech Republic, but after they played a few good balls the Netherlands showed their qualities and started doing absolutely what they wanted on the court. In the end it was another huge 10-point difference – 25-15 – and the Dutch won easily in three sets.
