The first set started better for the visitors, who raced out to a 13-8 lead. Egypt were able to close the gap, however, and the score was tied until 21-all. Good blocks at the end of the set allowed Slovenia to take the opener, 25-23.

The second set was a nailbiter from start to finish. Slovenia managed to build a tender 22-20 lead, but Egypt took a few points in a row earning a set point. Slovenia persevered, however, saving a few set points in a fascinitating finish to the set. A powerful spike from Gasparini sealed the set for Slovenia at 39-37.

In the third set, the host team showed incredible resilience coming back from the painful loss in the second set. They found themselves behind again, losing by four points at the second technical time-out. It was not long, however, until they managed to take a lead, 21-20. Still, their own unforced errors at the end of the set forced them to concede the third set, 25-23.
