Joao Simoes was born in 1986 in Leiria and started to play at the age of 13 in his hometown club SO Marinhense. During his 18 years career he also played for Esmoriz GC, Castelo Maia GC, Atlantico da Madalena, AJF Bastardo with whom he won in 2015/16 the Portuguese championships. This season he transferred to SC Espinho that recently won the Portuguese Cup. The 194-cm wingspiker is a very experienced player. He has also a career in the beach volley where he won the national championship. His first international cap was back in 2004 for the junior team. He is very tactical and clever in the attack and with good skills in reception and defense.
