Turkey made their FIVB World League debut in 2014 when they reached the Group 3 Final Four after finishing second in their pool behind Cuba. On home soil in Bursa, they swept Slovakia in the semifinals before losing in five sets to Cuba in the final. The next year, Turkey narrowly missed out on a second consecutive Group 3 Final Four appearance, but did nonetheless advance to Group 2 with the expansion of the World League.
In their first year in Group 2, Turkey immediately qualified for the Final Four last year, but lost to Canada 3-0 in the semifinals and then 3-1 to the Netherlands in the bronze medal game, ranking fourth in the group and 16th overall – their best performance in three appearances.
Turkey did not qualify for the 2014 FIVB World Championship, where their best performance remains a 15th place in the 1966 edition. After competing in the 1963, 1967 and 1971 European Championships, they had to wait 36 years for their next appearance. Their best continental finish is 11th twice, in 1963 and 2011.
