Sam started playing volleyball in 2009 for his school, Aquinas College, in Western Australia, competing in the numerous Nationals schools cup from 2009- 2012. Sam then got selected to go and play for the Australian Junior team, and compete in the Asian Junior Championships. In 2012 Luke was offered a scholarship to the AIS in Canberra which he accepted and begun full time training for volleyball.  In 2013 Luke was selected to play for the ‘Uniroos’ team to tour Russia for the world university games.  He was also selected as part of the Men’s National Senior team, which competed in the World Championship Qualifiers and the Senior Men’s Asian championships.  He toured to numerous countries throughout the year including Brazil, Dubai, Argentina and Qatar.  In 2014 he got his first professional contract, playing for Linkoping in Sweden.  After that he moved to Italy (Corigliano - A2) and Slovenia (ACH Bled).
He has earned his spot in the squad since 2015 and he has been a very important for the Volleyroos.
He played for Lindemans Aaslt (Belgium) in the 16/17 club season.
