Australia’s achievement of goal is a happy end, says Lebedew

Lebedew was pleased with Australia's performance after making it to the top four, although they are already qualified as hosts

Kunshan, China, June 18 – Australia coach Mark Lebedew did not rely on the automatic qualification of Australia in the FIVB Volleyball World League Group 2 Final Four in Gold Coast, but instead he programmed the team to still play their best to advance to the final; the team successfully achieved their goal with a 3-1 win over Turkey.

“Our goal when we began the qualification is to advance into the final. Although we are hosts, we have achieved our goal and it is a happy end. Both teams did not play with maximum morale and mentality. I am happy that we played hard when we met difficulties in this game.”

Australia captain Paul Carroll: “I am happy to win the round with a victory. I think Turkey are a little bit exhausted after they played against Japan yesterday. I am happy that we finished the World League preliminary round in top four. We will watch the game between China and Japan, and look what advantage we can get from them.”

Turkey coach Joshko Milenkoski
: “Congratulations to Australia for the victory. I am still happy to finish the World League although we made a lot of mistakes. Some of our important players are not here, but as I said, our target is the European Championship this year. We have to prepare well for this tournament.”
