FeVA president Juan Antonio Gutierrez and Cordoba Volleyball Federation president Eduardo Fernandez confirmed that Velasco will continue with the men’s programme in the next Olympic cycle, after the team’s successful run at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and the development of the country's national teams, players and coaching staff during Velasco's tenure.

Velasco’s achievements with the men's team were presented in a video as an introduction to the keynote speech by Gutierrez. “Today is an inspiring day as we continue our work for Argentine volleyball,” Gutierrez said. “I would like to thank Julio Velasco for his excellent work and great commitment to Argentina realising its dreams.”

Velasco thanked the national federation for its support. “Everything that we have been able to do was done with effort, conviction and humility,” he said. “If we lose our humility and do not grow our conviction, we will only take a step back and we will not be able to reach where we want to be, which is to be among the best in the world.”

The coach outlined his action plan for the new Olympic cycle.

“The first objective for the first four years is not to give up and to have that decisive mentality.” Velasco said. “We aspire to reach the World League final, qualify for the World Cup and try to beat Brazil in South American competitions.”

FeVA also confirmed that the city of Cordoba will host an FIVB Volleyball World League pool from June 16 to 18, 2017, at the Superdome Orfeo de Cordoba. Argentina will take on South American rivals Brazil, Bulgaria and World League defending champions Serbia.
