Sequeira on fire as Portugal upset Egypt

 

Valdir Sequeira enjoyed an impressive performance on Saturday

Cairo, Egypt, 17 Jun, 2017 - Valdir Sequeira enjoyed an impressive performance and 23 points in Portugal’s 3-1 upset of home side Egypt.


Egypt’s super star Ahmed Abdelhay, recorded an underwhelming outing with just 13 points.

The match started well for the home side. They were able to build a three-point lead early on and kept it for the remainder of the set. The set finished with a hard spike from Abdelhay, 25-22.




The second set began close until Portugal jumped ahead to 12-8. The visitors built on their lead, going 20-13 and 24-14 up before sealing the set with an eight-point advantage.




In the third act Portugal managed to build an early lead once again. At one point they had a nine-point gap, 16-7. The home side were never able to find their way back into the set and conceded the third by 25-15.

The final set saw more of the same as Portugal raced out to a quick 8-4 lead. With Egypt unable to close the gap, the visitors calmly maintained their lead for the rest of the set, before finishing the match thanks to an Abdelhay service error at 25-21.
