Dmitry started to play volleyball in the native town- Perm. Since 2007 he has been playing in professional team "Prikam’e”. Now he is the captain of the club.
Winner of Junior European Championship (2010), Winner of Junior World Championship (2011)
In June, 2015 Dmitry Kovalyov was the captain of the student's Russian national team. He won a bronze medal at the European games in Baku and gold at the Universiade in Gwangju. In August 2015 he signed a contract with the Ufa "Ural" for four seasons.
