Otávio started to play volleyball in the young teams of traditional Minas Tênis Clube. He stayed in the team from Belo Horizonte during 10 years. In 2013, he was called by the head coach Rubinho to be part of the team that won the FIVB Under 23 World Championship. With good performances, he got transfer to Funvic Taubaté where he played in the last two seasons. He got back to the national team this year being called by the head coach Renan Dal Zotto.
