Julio Velasco felt that their journey at the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League was good for the growth of his team
Cordoba, Argentina, June 18, 2017 –
Argentina coach
Julio Velasco is pleased with the 3-1 win over
Bulgaria, which he saw as a positive experience for the growth of his team in the FIVB Volleyball World League.
“We played a great match. They were playing for qualification and we were playing for our honour. We wanted to win after the emotional triumph over Brazil last night. We knew it was going to be difficult to get focused after a historical victory, but our boys played stunningly tonight.
“I’m very happy because we’re growing a lot as a team and also individually. Now we’re going to rest and then we need to start thinking about correcting our mistakes and try to get the players who couldn’t play in the World League involved in the process.
“We’re going in the right direction. The World League was very positive for us. We played three tie-breaks and got three victories against three strong teams. We had several absences and injuries, but we had an incredible growth in this tournament.”
Argentina captain Luciano De Cecco: “We have to keep working and think about the qualification for the World Championship, that is our main goal. We have time to work and improve. I’m happy because we played a great game. We played from less to more and in the last two matches, we played superior.”
Argentina player Nicolas Bruno: “We gave another joy to the people. We played well, but we needed to maintain our focus in closing out matches in previous weekends. We knew we were on the same level as our opponents, but there was something missing in our game and we only found it here. We played well and ended the weekend on top of the standings (in Cordoba).”

I don’t think we deserved the victory today. We didn’t have the determination; we didn’t show character to play a decisive match. We needed to play in a different way. I think we didn’t show that we wanted to win and to qualify. We lost our chance today, but also in other opportunities. We need to learn how to play these kind of matches.”
