Poland overpower Italy in four sets

 

Pesaro, Italy, 3 Jun, 2017 - Poland came back from a one-set deficit to defeat Italy 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-23) in an exciting match on Saturday afternoon.

Dawid Konarski led the winning team scroring 17 points, 12 from spikes and 5 from blocks. Captain Michal Kubiak added 13 points for the 2014 World Champions, while Filippo Lanza put 14 points on the board for the home team.

Poland started very well with impressive blocks in the first set and continued to score points with Kurek and Konarski’s fantastic spikes. They took a 11-6 lead, but Italy eventually found their rythm and is soon cruised to victory thanks to Lanza’s spikes and Matteo Piano’s blocks.


In the second set Poland dominated from start to finish, impressing with a high efficiency in attack and powerful blocks by Konarski.
Poland took a lead early in the third set at 8-4. Konarski’s blocks and smashing serves made the difference and Poland controlled the play throughout the set. Italy managed a short-lived comeback to tie things up at 16-all, but very allowed only two more, before conceding the set, 25-18.

Italy started aggressively in the fourth set and took the first four points. Poland immediately reacted and brought the score to 4-all. From then on both teams traded narrow leads. A good block helped Poland break the tie and take the final set, 25-23.
