Pesaro set to host volleyball heroes

 

Coaches and players in World League Pool A1 attended a press conference on Thursday

Pesaro, Italy, June 1, 2017 - Pesaro welcomes Olympic champions Brazil, world champions Poland, Olympic silver medallists Italy and Iran in FIVB Volleyball World League Pool A1 from June 2 to 4.

A press conference was held at the Excelsior Hotel in Pesaro, Italy, before matches get underway at the Adriatic Arena on Friday.

Brazil coach Renan Dal Zotto said: "We would like to thank the local organisation and the City of Pesaro for the warm welcome and the hospitality they showed us. The internal structure of the team has changed a bit compared with the Rio 2016 Olympic Games - we have got many young players that joined the team and we are doing our best to build up team spirit. Bernardo is always by our side even if he left the charge of head coach. We feel the great responsability to go on with the fantastic work he has done for many years."

Brazil captain Bruno Rezende said: "For us, coming to Italy is always a great experience. We feel at home here, and this approach contributes to our positivity. We know that this country loves volleyball and Pesaro in particular is an extraordinary city. In our team there are new talented players and this is a value added for us. Tomorrow I am sure we will be able to show a great volleyball."

Poland coach Ferdinando de Giorgi said: "Pesaro is an important city for me, because in this venue  I won the first national championship together with the Lube team. I am glad to be able to feel the enthusiasm that the Adriatic Arena is able to transmit to the players and to the teams. Brazil are favourites and it’s going to be hard for us to compete, but at the same time, these matches enable us to have an immediate feedback about the mental and physical condition of the players."

Italy coach Gianlorenzo Blengini said: "Our team is brand new and it has been built with a deep sense of identity. We are working hard to build up a strong mental approach among the players and we are trying new tactics that we will practice as of the first matches. This round of the World League is quite tough and this is important for us, because it will allow us to understand what must be improved and what is working well."

Italy captain Simone Buti said: "New athletes with a lot of talent have joined the team and this is a challenging opportunity for us. We are full of enthusiasm that will unable us to play well. Facing these strong team will be a great opportunity."

Iran coach Igor Kovacevic said: "We know perfectly that we are facing strong teams.We will do our best from the first match on. This is a perfect chance to grow and to develop ourselves."

Iran captain Mir Saeid Marouflakrani said: "We know we are facing strong teams but we are sure to compete with them at our best. We really would like to get a good result in this World League."
