Laurent Tillie: We won our worst match of the season

Pau, France, 10 Jun, 2017 – French coach Laurent Tillie was proud his team managed to beat Italy 3-1 on Saturday despite “playing their worst match of the season" so far.

Laurent Tillie, head coach, France: It was a tough game. Giannelli smartly played to his wing spikers and middle blockers. We were often late at block. We lost our patience and it’s never good. But we won, we will keep that in mind. We won even if it was our worst game of the season and that is positive.

Benjamin Toniutti, team captain, France: We take 3 points tonight and that’s the only thing to keep in mind. It was so good to play here in Pau tonight. The public and atmosphere were amazing. It feels good to play matches at home. Tomorrow we will need that again because it’s going to be a real fight against USA.

Luca Vettori, player, Italy: We played not so well today. We started well it’s the only thing we need to keep in mind for tomorrow. We need to relax a bit and only think about the game against Russia.

Gianlorenzo Blengini, head coach, Italy: we lost so we are not happy of course. We played better than yesterday. We were more steady but it was not enough to win today.
