Belgium coach Heynen sees his team improving

Team Belgium celebrate the victory over USA

Novi Sad, Serbia, June 4, 2017 - Belgium coach Vital Heynen praised his team's effort to turn the score and to win over USA 3-1.

Belgium coach Vital Heynen: It was a very close match. We almost lost the fourth set, but we managed somehow to turn the score in our favor. USA team played a good match, and they are a promising team. In this tournament, we won against Serbia, so I must be very happy, obviously. Some say that the teams are getting tired after day 1, but I think, actually, that they usually improve. That was the case with us.

USA coach John Speraw: The only way to get better is to play under stress. We have a lot of new players, it is a process. We learned a lot here, we’ll see if we can make the most of it over the next couple of weeks.

Belgium player Sam Deroo: We feel good after this weekend. I am especially satisfied with the way we reacted after first match day. We have good intensity, we beat some very strong teams. Our confidence is growing, and we hope to continue in the same manner throughout the competition.

USA player K. Shoji: We have a new team, little experience. We need to continue learning. Overall, I am proud of my team. I hope we’ll be more consistent. I am disappointed with the result, but we are positive.
