Argentina expecting memorable days in Cordoba

 

Argentina will play at the Orfeo Superdomo for the first time since 2010

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 17, 2017 – Argentina return to FIVB Volleyball World League Group 1 this year and there are high expectations that their fans will turn out in force when The Orfeo Superdromo Arena in Cordoba hosts the third week of action. 

Over three days from June 16-18 Argentina will take on Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games gold medallists Brazil, defending World League champions Serbia, and Bulgaria, who will be expecting big things a year out of their hosting of the Italy-Bulgaria 2018, FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship. 


Julio Velasco’s side is back in Group 1 after a year’s absence and return to play in Cordoba for the first time since 2010. 

“We are very happy to be here in Cordoba, we know how they work for this sport here,” Juan Antonio Gutierrez, the Argentina Volleyball Federation president said. 

“We had a debt with Cordoba, where we haven’t played since the 2010 World League Finals. There is tradition, history and a very strong and important sports lifestyle here in Cordoba, we needed to bring our national team here.”


Argentina’s World League preparations step up a level when they travel to Italy at the end of the match to take on Italy and Japan in a triangular tournament in Naples from May 27-29. 

They start their World League campaign in Kazan, Russia where they take on the host nation, France and Bulgaria. Their next stop is Tehran where they face Iran, Serbia and Belgium.
