Takasaki, Japan, June 9, 2017 – After a promising performance by Issei Otake in Japan’s 3-1 win over Turkey, coach Yuichi Nakagaichi hopes his player will become one of their ace attackers in the FIVB Volleyball World League.

“Otake played really well tonight. I hope he will be one of our ace attackers in the team. Ishikawa was not in good condition today, but played all four sets. I asked him each set if he was okay to play and he said yes.

“Turkey had a strong sideout and are very strong. It was a difficult match. Our serve was effective in the first set and then they had mistakes on serve, which helped us in our victory.”

Japan captain Masahiro Yanagida: “We had a great start, while they made some mistakes. We lost in the third sets as some of our young players made mistakes. We will correct these in our next matches.”

Japan player Yuki Ishikawa: “We won tonight and that is very good, although we must do something about errors.”

Japan player Naonobu Fujii: “This was a big win for us. We did some mistakes, but we will do our best from now on.”

Japan player Issei Otake: “We played our volleyball tonight. We overcame our turnovers in the third set.”

Turkey coach Joshko Milenkoski:
“We had a lot of problems. We have some injuries and the team and lost the first set easily. We only had one practice since the first round. We are tired from the travel and we had difficulty adapting to the condition. The third set was interesting, but no longer had energy in the fourth set and we stopped playing.”

Turkey captain Arslan Eksi: “They played perfect tactically today. We played bad after winning three matches last week. Today we looked like a totally different team. We have to focus on our next matches against Slovenia and Korea.
