Ivovic, Dream Team to return almost intact in 2017 World League

Marko Ivovic led Serbia to win the title and won two individual honours in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 31, 2017 – The 2016 FIVB Volleyball World League MVP, Marko Ivovic, and an almost intact Dream Team cast are set to return to the 2017 edition of the premier annual men’s tournament.

World League

The 26-year-old Ivovic took the spotlight in the World League last year, when he led Serbia to win its first ever gold medal and topped the tournament with two individual honours – MVP and Best Outside Spiker. His outstanding performance significantly contributed to Serbia’s successful 2016 stint.

Once again the Serbian player will return to the latest edition with his compatriot and two-time Best Middle Blocker winner Srecko Lisinac. The two players will be key in Serbia’s campaign to win back-to-back titles.

The other duos from the 2016 Dream Team are Jennia Grebennikov and Antonin Rouzier of France, Wallace De Souza and Mauricio Souza of Brazil.

World League

For the French tandem, only Jennia Grebennikov will be back in the line-up of coach Laurent Tillie, as Rouzier announced his retirement after the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Grebennikov, who was the Best Libero in 2016, is again expected to display his striking defensive moves on the court this year.

The Brazilian duo – Wallace and Mauricio – are back to improve on their silver medal finish and earn their 10th World League title. The outlook seems positive after Brazil produced a gold medal finish at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, after a strong outing in the World League.

Finally, last year’s Best Setter awardee Simone Gianelli will be out to lead the Italian squad, which finished behind Brazil at Rio 2016. In the new edition of the World League, the young setter will steer a different line-up without stars Ivan Zaytsev and Osmany Juantorena.
