Hirsch led his team putting 19 points on the board. He could count on the help of his teammates,
Christian Fromm and
Ruben Schott, who scored 10 points each. On the other side of the net only
Vitaliy Erdshtein was able to keep up with his opponents, but his 11 points were not enough for Kazakhstan to win a single set.

The first two sets were a straightforward affair with Hirsch's dominant performance in attack and block letting his team take an early lead and controlling the play in both sets.
The final set was more closely contested with Kazakhstan managing to close the gap each time Germany took a modest lead. Unsurprisingly, it was Hirsch who scored the two final points for his team (a block and and a spike) to give them a 25-22 win.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday with Kazakhstan taking on Venezuela, while Germany will be hoping to continue their good form against Austria.
