Spain look at staying unbeaten against Mexico

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 8, 2017 - Mexico and Spain meet for the third time in FIVB World League history Friday in Linz after the European side's wins last season and again last week.

Head-to-Head
• Mexico and Spain will meet for the third time in the World League.
• Last year, the first encounter between these teams in the World League ended in a 3-2 win for Spain. Andres Villena, 2017's top scorer of Group 3, scored 32 points in that match, 14 more than any other player on the pitch at both sides.
• The second encounter in the first weekend of the 2017 World League ended in a straight set victory for Spain.

Mexico
• Mexico have won their last two World League matches (3-1 against Greece, 3-0 against Qatar) and could win three in a row for the first time in the competition.
• Mexico have never won more than two matched in a single edition of the World League. In 2014. They also won twice, the same amount they already have this year.
• Daniel Vargas has scored 47 points for Mexico so far, only Spain's Andrés Villena (50) scored more in Group 3.
• Jorge Barajas is the best receiver from Group 3 after the first weekend with an efficiency of 71.43%.

Spain
• Spain have won all three matches in the opening weekend of the 2017 World League, conceding only two sets (one each against Greece and Qatar).
• Only in 2002 and 2015, Spain won their first four matches in a single World League.
• Since their return to the World League in 2014 (absent since 2008), Spain won 13 of their 21 matches (62%). Between 1995 and 2008 they won only 38% of their matches.
• Andres Villena is the top scorer of Group 3 this season with 50 points including a Group 3 high 42 spikes. He scored most points for Spain in their first match, 17 against Mexico.
