Rookies Estonia up against hosts Mexico in first head-to-head

 

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 14, 2017 - Mexico host rookies Estonia in the second semifinal of Group 3, Saturday in Leon, in what is the very first time these teams come together across any official FIVB competition. Mexico finished pool play 2-4, but qualified to the Final Four as hosts. Estonia finished pool play on a 5-1 record, losing only to Tunisia.

Head-to-Head
• This will be the first meeting between these teams on a major stage.
• They did not meet in the Pool phase, since Mexico were featured in Pools A3 and F3 and Estonia in Pools B3 and D3.
• Mexico have lost five of their last six encounters with CEV opponents in the World League. The only team they victimised in that run are Greece.

Mexico
• Mexico are in the Final Four as hosts of the tournament. In Group 3, they managed to win two of their six matches.
• Mexico will partake in a Final Four stage in the World League for the first time.
• Mexico have won only one of their last seven World League matches on home court, their 3-0 triumph against Germany in Mexico City last season.

Estonia
• Estonia have reached the Final Four on the strength of five wins and one defeat in Group 3.
• Their only defeat in their World League debut season came against Tunisia on 3 June, after which Estonia have reeled off four consecutive victories.
In Group 3, Ardo Kreek emerged as the best blocker, averaging 0.74 kill blocks per set.
