Germany started strong in the first two sets. With some great serves, they earned a quick lead in both sets and dominated their opponents. Venezuela faced problems with reception (29% in the first set and 41% in the second) and offense (40%, 35%) and lost both sets with a large deficit.

Venezuela took the initiative in the third set and built a three point lead before the second technical time-out (16-13). Germany´s efficiency in offense went down to 41%, and this together with many unforced errors and a weaker service cost them the chance for a straight-set win, when they conceded the second set 22-25.

The 1.600 spectators in the Fraport Arena in Frankfurt/Main saw a strong German Team in the last set as they found their best level right from the beginning to vanquish the hopes of Venezuela. 67% of the home team’s attacks found their way into the side of Venezuela, while the South-Americans converted only 39% of their spikes. So it was no surprise that Germany celebrated a perfect ending at home as Daniel Malescha scored the last point. Apart from the advantage on offence, Germany also out-blocked their opponents (13 to 5).
