Spain celebrate a hard-fought 3:2-win against Mexico

Linz, Austria, June 9 - At the start of the FIVB World League tournament in the TipsArena in Linz, Spain could celebrate a dramatic 3:2 (23:25, 25:18, 21:25; 15:9)-win versus Final Four host Mexico. Spain extended its run to four games without any loss of a point.

Spain captain Jorge Fernandez: "It wasn’t our best match today, but the win was important for our big aim to reach the final stage at Mexico. There were a lot of easy mistakes made today. Tomorrow there is a big match against Germany at our schedule."

Spain head coach Fernando Munoz: "I expected a difficult game and it was tough. In comparison to last weeks game we didn’t perform as well. We have to improve for the upcoming games.

Mexico player Nestor Orellana: "We haven’t reached our top level. We started well and had a perfect start into the game. At the final set we produced some mistakes and that made the difference today."

Mexico head coach Manuel Calderon: "It was an improvement to the last game against Spain. It is difficult to score points against the best teams in our group. Tomorrow we need to improve against Austria. They are the local team and the crowd will push them."
