Ivo Casas was born in Matosinhos in 1992 and ten years after he started to play volleyball in Leixoes SC, club where he played until 2011 and from where he transferred to Castelo da Maia GC until 2013, when the team conquered the Portuguese Cup. After he transferred to SL Benfica, where he currently plays, winning the Portuguese Cup and National Championship, reaching also the final of the CEV Challenge Cup. This year the team won the Super Cup and is fighting for the championship. This 180-cm libero played his first match for the junior national team in 2008 and was called for the first time to the senior national team, in 2009, in a European League weekend when the titular libero was injured and he replaced him in a match that Ivo will take long to forget. He’s a young player with a promising future. Like a libero, he is an all around player, very good in reception and defense. He is simple, but clever and a strong asset to the team, methodic, committed, studious and hard worker, always trying to be better. In the national team his top results were in 2009, when he achieved the 1st place in the Lusophone Games, the 3rd place in the European League and the 2nd place in the 2016 World League Group 2 Finals.
