Alexandre Ferreira was born in 1991 and started to play volleyball when he was 14 years old at the EB Evaristo Nogueira. He then went to Sena Clube where he played for two years. In 2008 he integrated the project of the Portuguese NF the National teams Permanent Training Centre, playing for CDRJ Anreade, where he won the III division national championship. He transferred in 2010 to Esmoriz GC and in 2012 played in the 1st division for SC Espinho. His first international club experience in Italy playing for BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte alongside with his brother Marco Ferreira that also plays in the national team. He continued in Italy in the next season playing for Diatec Trentino and moved afterwards to Turkey to play for Ziraat Bankasi, ranking 8th that year in the CEV Champions League. He now plays again in Italy for Calzedonia Verona. Alex, a 202-cm wing spiker, is now one of the strong points of the national volleyball, with potentialities to be developed, from the physical level, to technique and tactics, as well as a whole high level competitive experience. He was first called to the junior national team in 2008, qualifying in 2010 for the 3rd round of the European Championships. He joined the senior team in 2009 at the European League. In 2016 he led the team to the 2nd place in the World League Group 2 Finals.
