Hochul Kim replaces Kim Nam Sung as head coach of Korea’s men’s national team for this year’s World League. As a setter he competed for Korea from 1975 to 1986, winning the gold medal at the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok and the 1979 Unversiade in Mexico. Kim was named MVP of the 1986 Korea Super League as well as three times in the Italian League where he competed for Maxicono Parma in the early 1980s.
After retiring from active duty, Kim Hochul took up coaching mostly in Italy, before returning to Korea to head Hyundai Capital from 2005 to 2012 and lead the club to two V-league titles. The 61-year-old previously served as head coach of Korea’s men’s national team in 2006 and 2009.
