Shuzo Yamada brings Japan first victory

 

Poprad, Slovakia, June 4, 2017 - Japan finishes the weekend with a victory, defeating Australia in four sets. Shuzo Yamada was the strongest player of Japan, helping to reach a score of 3-1 (25-18, 17-25, 25-21, 25-22).





Shuzo Yamada scored 14 points (13 attacks and 1 ace), but it was Australia’s captain Paul Carroll who was the best scorer of the match with 24 points. Nathan Roberts was just behind with 23.






Motivated by seeking first victory this weekend, Japan started the match with very well execution of their tactic. Their attack was very effective and distributed well by their setter Naonobu Fujii, allowing Japan to close first set with 25-18. 






Fans could see different volleyball styles, as both teams began second set with good performances.  Australia dominated physically and Japan showed amazing play in defence. Volleyroos found the rhythm of side-out in the second part of the second set and made a few points with counter attacks. Opposite Paul Carroll put his team to lead 17-13. Australia won the second set 25-17.




Japan led 13-11 in third set, but Australia turned the score to 14-13 thanks to great service by Nathan Roberts. Japan then caused problems for their opponents with float service and Issei Otake put his team with nice spike to lead 18-16. Japan won third set 25-21.




Australia build three point lead in fourth part of the match, but Otake hit the ace and the score was 5-5. The set was very close, but Japan made very important saves in defence in final part and finally won 25-22. It was first victory for Japan in this tournament.
