New system shows first positives, says satistified Blain

Poprad, Slovakia, June 4, 2017 - It took time, but Japan’s new system starts to work, explains coach Philippe Blain. The team faced difficulties throughout the weekend, but recorded first victory against Australia.

Japan coach, Philippe Blain - "For us this victory is very important. I have to by positive. We are trying to play new side-out system and today we finally started to play it, so we can see the future for this team.”

Japan opposite, Issei Otake - "Today in the first set we did a good job on reception, so we could play fast. But afterwards it was not easy to do side-out. We were trying to be patient and catch every ball and we won. It is cool.”

Australia coach, Mark Lebedew - "I think we didn’t approach the match in same way that we approached first two matches. We were worrying about the things that are not important and we didn’t play good. We have to learn to play every point with the same approach, otherwise we will never get better.”

Australia captain, Paul Carroll - "We are disappointed. We were playing very well, but then at times we let them play better. They had great ball control and we didn’t put them under enough pressure. We have only one victory, we need to work and play better. Now we are heading to Finland and I hope it will be better. We are lucky that we don´t need to fight for the place in Finals. We want to be in best shape possible in Gold Coast.”
