Japan aim to defend Asian Eastern Zonal Championship title

 

Japan's players are in line to defend their Asian East Championship title

Lausanne, May 24, 2017 - Japan and Chinese Taipei will warm up for their 2017 FIVB World League campaigns by facing each other in the Asian Eastern Zonal Men’s Volleyball Championship gold medal match in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia on Thursday. 

Chinese Taipei beat Korea 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-15) in a match that lasted 59 minutes, while Japan defeated the host nation 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-19) in front of 4,000 fans.



Japan and Korea will compete in World League Group 2 and will face each other in Takasaki, Japan on June 6. Chinese Taipei play in Group 3 and begin their campaign in Estonia on the weekend of June 2-4, where they face Estonia, Montenegro and Tunisia. 

The Asian Eastern Zonal Men’s Volleyball Championship is a biennial AVC Eastern Zonal Volleyball Association competition and this year is a celebration of the 90th anniversary of the development of volleyball in Mongolia and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Mongolian Volleyball Association. 

Japan won the last edition, which was also held in Ulaanbaatar. Chinese Taipei won silver and Korea bronze.
