Carroll strikes 16 as Australia see off China

 

Australia's Paul Carroll spikes against China's double block.

Helsinki, Finland, June 8, 2017 - Paul Carroll scored 16 points to lead Australia to an impressive 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-21) victory against China in the first match of the Pool D2 in the FIVB Volleyball World League.

Nathan Roberts scored 13 and Samuel Walker 11 points for Australia. The top scorers of China were Jiang Chuan (11 points) and Chen Longhai (8).



In the first set Australia took an early 8-6 lead, but China came back and the set was still tied at 17-17. Volleyroos performed a powerful finish scoring the last points to 25-22.



Australia had a tremendous start for the second set and stormed away to 8-3, 14-6, 20-10 and finally 25-13. China had problems with their reception and blocking while Australia hit very powerful serves and spikes.



China came back in the third set and was again fighting with strong attitude. The set was tied at 13-13, but after that Volleyroos took again the control and sailed away to 25-21 win.
