Australia coach Lebedew: We didn't play well but we kept fighting

Post Match Press Conference Held in Kunshan Sports Centre (Aus-JPN)

Kunshan, China, June 16, 2017- Australia struggled a 3-2 (29-27, 18-25, 24-26, 25-21,15-9) tie-breaker win over Japan in the opening match of week 3 of Group 2 on Friday in Kunshan Sports Centre.

Australia captain Paul Carroll: We are happy to win, but this is not a perfect game for both sides. I think both sides wanted to win but lost many chances. We had a young setter today, this is his first time to start the game. We are happy about the performance in the fourth and fifth sets. Now we are looking forward to the game against China tomorrow.

Australia coach Mark Lebedew: I think Carroll said well, this is not a perfect game. I think last week we played better than today. But it is important that when we played not well, we kept fighting. We are fighting every chance to win. For this game, mentality is better than the quality.

Japanese coach Yuichi Nakagaichi: We did not focus from the beginning, we lost so many easy balls. Australia played well today, they played good defense, their libero played excellent. Australia could do what they can, we could not do what we can, so we lost the game.

Japanese player Masashiro Yanagida: We made a lot mistakes in the game. In the fifth set, we didn't play our volleyball. In the next two games we should fix the mistakes and look forward to win the next two games.
