Mexico found ways to overcome their rivals’ powerful blocks in the first set. By presenting a variety of offensive options, the Mexicans stopped Qatar in the initial period and got an advantage in the scoreboard that the opponent team was unable to reduce. The powerful attacks from Daniel Vargas after Pedro Rangel’s second touch of the ball did the rest and Mexico finished the set with a feint action by Nestor Orellana (25-17).

Qatar briefly recovered in the game since Massimiliano Giaccardi’s men were able to put an end to the opposing team’s momentum through an improvement in their performance at the start of the second set. Qatar’s more upbeat attitude turned the period into a roller-coaster, with both teams exchanging the leaderships of the game. As the tie persisted, Mexico managed to maintain the inspiration in the end of the set to achieve the 2-0 (27-25).

While Qatar wanted to exhaust all their options to extend the match, Mexico’s deserving actions made impossible for the Asian side to claim the set. Rangel took the lead of his team’s offensive operations and Mexico put the direct route to victory. Qatar saved a match ball, but a surprising point after a spectacular dig by Daniel Vargas, who crushed against the advertising banners to save the ball for 25-21 and the 3-0 victory.
