Qatar celebrate victory

Barcelona, Spain, June 2, 2017 - Qatar defeated Greece in the opening match of the FIVB World League in Barcelona. The Asian side proved too strong for Greeks and put a 3-0 in the scoreboard.

Qatar coach Massimiliano Giaccardi: I didn’t know what to expect because we did not have any friendly matches during the preparation. It was our first game, so I was a little scared but we have practised well, we tried hard and we achieved our goal. Our intention is not to win, our intention is to play well. If we play well, we can challenge anyone.

Greece coach Arseniadis Konstantinos: Our start was too bad, with too many errors. It was a bad game for us and I hope we can learn and improve.

Qatar player Birama Faye: It is always hard to play the first match because you don’t know a lot of the about the opponent, but we entered in the court well and we put into practise what we have worked on in the preparation. We hope that we can keep this level tomorrow and the day after tomorrow.
