Estonia aiming to add to World League joy in front of home fans

Estonia's players have made a strong start to the 2017 World League

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 7, 2017 – Estonia will be out to impress their home fans after a strong start to the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League.

Estonia opened with wins over Chinese Taipei and Montenegro and a defeat to Tunisia in Bijelo Polje, Montenegro and now they will host the next round of matches in Kalev Sportshall in Tallinn.

Qatar, Venezuela and Greece are heading to Estonia’s capital and the host nation will need to be at their best as they pursue the unbeaten Germany and Spain at the top of Group 3.

“We’re not thinking about a place in the Final Four,” Estonia captain Kert Toobal said. “We’ll go one match at a time and then see how the tournament unfolds.”

Estonia have been in good form, even before the start of the World League.

When they hosted the European World Championship Qualifiers only a defeat to London 2012 Olympic champions Russia denied them a place at the Italy-Bulgaria 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.

Instead they will now compete in the final World Championship qualifying tournament in mid-July, where they will face Belarus, Belgium, Germany, Slovakia and Spain.

Toobal added, “because of the long and busy summer it is very important that all the players stay healthy.”
