Andrej Kravarik made a successful debut as head coach of Slovakia. He guided his team to win in straight sets against Japan in their opening match of the FIVB Volleyball World League 2017.
Andrej Kravarik, coach of Slovakia: "We deserved to win today. Our players made everything right and they followed the game plan. It is a pity that we had troubles in the third set, because it should not happen. Our win is very valuable and we are happy for the three points. We played very strongly, my players showed fighting spirit and I am also very satisfied with the crowd and I want to thank our fans."
Emanuel Kohut, captain of Slovakia: "It is great that we won in straight sets, because every saved set is good and we have more time to relax. Japanese team played very well in defence, but we were strong in serving and attacking and we fought for every ball. Great start of the World League - we are happy!"
Quick links - Volleyball:
Philippe Blain, coach of Japan: "Obviously, there was a difference in physical potential. In the third set we found out some offensive solutions. It was not enough to win, but we were close. It is young team - they must learn, but this is a good experience. I am just little bit disappointed with the first two sets, because we did not show our best."
Hideomi Fukatsu, captain of Japan: "The Slovaks attacked very well and we could not make the break. The third set was quite good, but, you know, we are young and we are just trying our best at this moment."
