We never got into trouble, says Netherlands coach Vermeulen

Gido Vermeulen celebrate the win

The Hague, Netherlands, June 16, 2017 - Netherlands took a comfortable victory over Korea 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-16) playing well in aspetcs of the game in front of their home crowd.

Netherlands coach Gido Vermeulen: We played steady and clean today. It is always difficult against Asian teams, but we did a good job today. Our block was super and our side out clean. We never got into trouble, hopefully we manage to continue that this weekend. Tomorrow awaits another "final" that we have to win. Again we will do everything we can to win in this fantastic hall and for this great audience.

Netherlands captain Jasper Diefenbach: Our start could not have been better. You have to start fierce against Korea and we managed to do so. We showed that we are physically a strong team. Also our float services put a lot of pressure on them.

Korea coach Kim Hochul: We did nog expect that the Netherlands would play this well. On top of that, we weren’t able to play at our best and then it becomes really difficult. The Netherlands also showed more power than us, they gave everything. And the audience also gave its best.

Korea captain Sun Kyu Lee: We really had to get into the game, we had some physical issues due to all the traveling. The Netherlands are the home team, for them the circumstances are perfect. And they were brilliant at blocking, that made it very difficult for us. Hopefully we recover from this match soon, because we need to win at least one match in this round to stay in group 2. We will do everything we can to achieve that in this beautiful new hall.
