Turks “Toy” with Egypt

 

Ankara, Turkey, June 3, 2017 – With Metin Toy and Gokhan Gokgoz leading the way, Turkey shut out Egypt to claim their second victory in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League. Feeling the support of their fans in Ankara, the Turks “Toy”-ed for a speedy 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-15) win.

Toy and Gokhan, along with Egypt’s Ahmed Shafik, scored 14 points each to top the charts of the match.


With this victory Turkey tied their head-to-head World League record against Egypt at one win each.


Egypt started the match well and was 8-7 ahead at the first technical time-out. Turkey continued to fight, took control and in the end Mustafa Koc’s kill block closed the set at 25-20 in favour of the home side.


Similarly, in the second set Egypt were in the lead at the first technical time-out and then fell behind again. Turkey continued their effective blocking efforts throughout the set and this time it was Baturalp Burak Gungor’s wall that stopped the clocks at 25-20 to double Turkey’s lead in the match.


Turkey continued to perform well in blocking and spiking to rush to a 16-11 lead in the third set. Egypt were trying to fight back, but Turkey did not allow it. The home squad outscored the Egyptians towards a 25-15 win.
