Kunshan expects festival of volleyball in World League Pool G2

 

Kunshan Sports Centre will host 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League Pool G2

Kunshan, China, June 14, 2017 - Volleyball fans in the city of Kunshan, in the Chinese province of Jiangsu, can expect a true festival of volleyball when 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League Pool G2 is played at the Kunshan Sports Centre from June 16 to 18.

The final stage of preliminary round competition in pool G2 will see hosts China, Turkey and Japan competing for a place in the Group 2 Finals which are due to be held in Gold Coast, Australia from June 24 to 25. Australia - the fourth team in the pool - are automatically qualified for the Group 2 Finals as organisers.

Japan have made a stunning comeback with four wins following two defeats to Slovakia and Portugal in Poprad, Slovakia in week one. The wins included 3-1 victories against Australia and Turkey, as well as victories against Slovenia and Korea. Australia claimed victory against China 3-0 in Helsinki in week 2, but China will be determined to make use of home advantage in Kunshan. And China coach Raul Lozano will count on rising star Chuan Jiang who currently sits second in the Group 2 Best Scorer table with 100 points to his name. Finally, Turkey will aim to defend their hopes of progressing to the Group 2 Finals after claiming three wins in World League week 1 against China, Egypt and the Netherlands.

As one of the most prosperous county-level cities in China and home to 1.6 million people, Kunshan has attracted a large population of immigrants and won numerous awards for its innovative approach to providing access to essential services in the city. Kunshan Sports Centre will also welcome the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix from July 7 to 9.
