Finland coach Sammelvuo loves the World League despite loss

The coaches of Finland and the Czech Republic shake hands

Seoul, Korea, June 3, 2017 – Finland coach Tuomas Sammelvuo may have watched his team lose to the Czech Republic on Saturday, but he still relishes the experience of playing in the FIVB World League.

Tuomas Sammelvuo, Finland coach: What I love about the World League is that it teaches you a lot. It teaches you about time differences and about opponents. It is a great league with some difficulties. We started well, but when you lose the second set, the opponent builds confidence. Our main problem after that was absolutely the sideout. We could not score even after a good reception.

Ales Holubec, captain of Czech Republic: I'm really happy about the first set. We read the game of Finland and enjoy the game bit by bit. We played like last year and I'm glad that we could enjoy the game today.

Eemi Tervaportti, captain of Finland: After the first set, they started to read me a lot better and we had some problems with that. On offence, we were not good enough. Sometimes we win, sometimes we learn. Today, we learned.

Miguel Angel Falasca, Czech Republic coach: It's very nice to have a victory. It's a difficult period because last week was the World Championship Qualification. Our block was crucial to winning this game. I hope we continue this way. We will play with aggressiveness and fight together.
