Coach Hochul Kim amazed to gain victory in very first match

Seoul, Korea, June 2, 2017 - Coach of Korea, Hochul Kim, showed signs of relief after his team's victory against the Czech Republic on Friday. Miguel Angel Falasca, head coach of  the visitors' team, said he was determined the Czech Republic would improve with every match.

Hochul Kim, coach of Korea: "The players played better than I expected. We watched the Czech Republic playing at the European Championship while they were seeing us for the first time. Jiseok Jung and Kang-Won Lee played in the match better than they played at practice. Slovenia are a strong team and Finland also have tight teamwork. I was worried that we might not win even one game, and I am amazed that we were able to gain victory in our first match."

Sun-Kyu Lee, captain of Korea: "It could have been burdensome because the first match is held in Korea. I think the young players' passion and willingness were the key factors to our win today."

Kang-Woon Lee, player of Korea: "I feel great that we won today. I felt nervous because it was my first time playing as a key player in the national team. I got a lot of help from the coach and the trainers. Our setters were all very good, especially Min-gyu Lee. I tried to hit the ball with confidence and I think that is how we managed to win today. I felt responsible that our head coach said in an interview that he needed me to play my best in order to win the game."

Miguel Angel Falasca, coach of Czech Republic: "I want to see the positive side of this game. We came from a difficult moment in last week's World Championship qualification tournament. I think we can play better and win some games. We want to keep that goal for this summer. The way we fought as a team was very good and we will improve from here."

Ales Holubec, captain of Czech Republic: "It was difficult and like a roller-coaster. The first set was not good, but we started to play as a team from the second set. Like always, it was European style versus Asian style. I think the reason we lost in the fifth set was because it was a long set and their defence was good. It was good that we got to play all the five sets."
