Overview

Team profile

Finland

After a one-off appearance in 1993, Finland rejoined the FIVB World League in 2006 and has been part of the competition ever since, making this year’s entry their 12th consecutive. Their best finish to date has been seventh place in 2007.
Last year, competing in Group 2, Finland narrowly missed entry to the group’s finals, finishing on par with the Netherlands on 6-3 records but a point below. In 2014, Finland ended a 32-year absence from the FIVB World Championship and returned in emphatic fashion. Thousands of fans travelled to Poland to cheer on their team as they enjoyed a spirited run to the second round before eventually finishing ninth. This bettered their previous best of 11th from 1952.
In 2015 they finished 12th in the European Championship, down four spots from their 2011 and 2013 performances. Their best ever continental performance was in 2007, when they lost the bronze medal match 3-1 to Serbia. Two years earlier, Finland had won the European League
