Tine Urnaut scored 23 points to lead Slovenia in the tie-break clash against Korea

Takasaki, Japan, June 9, 2017 – Tine Urnaut switched his attack game to high gear to spark Slovenia’s 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 25-13, 24-26, 15-12) win over Korea in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League Group 2 at Takasaki Arena on Friday.

Urnaut had quite a solid stint from the three-metre line and hit 21 attacks out of his 23 total output. Korea’s Lee Kang-Won had 16 markers, which all came from attacks.

Slovenia experienced their first five-set match in the World League, but the tie-break success extended their streak to four consecutive wins in the World League.

The opening set was tight until the second technical timeout when Slovenia began to attack better and started to pull away. Both teams committed several service errors in the first set, but Slovenia prevailed 25-20.

Korea had some trouble dealing with the high block of Slovenia, but played much better in the second set in passing and blocking to help them snatch the set at 25-23.



Slovenia responded aggressively in the third set with good reception and blocking to seal the set quickly at 25-13.

The Europeans looked to be marching to a triumph in the fourth set with a 14-11 edge, but suddenly came apart as Korea stormed back with five straight points to move ahead and make it 2-2 with a 26-24 score.

Slovenia led in the fifth set but Korea fought closely to cut down the lead. Slovenia prevailed 15-12 behind their high block and powerful serve.
