Breathtaking celebration by Spain's major scorer Andrés Villena as his team and Estonia will meet at Group 3 final match
Leon, Mexico, June 17, 2017 - With similarly consistent performances, Spain and Estonia advanced to 2017 FIVB World League Group 3 final match after respectively winning their semifinal games over Germany and hosts Mexico in straight sets, in front of a very colorful crowd of nearly 3’000 fans at Domo de la Feria in Leon, Mexico.

The opening semifinal clash was highlighted by a tremendous game of Spain’s
Andrés Villena, who uncorked 22 points at the
3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-22) victory of his side. The third time was indeed the charm for Spain as they had failed twice to reach Group 3 Final Four in the last years, and now they not only are among the elite but also aiming for gold.
Later on, Estonia unveiled some rock-solid blocks to deliver a
3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-20) loss to home team Mexico, although the result didn’t spoil the party on the stands, where fans cheered for their favourites and also recognized the fine job of the European side.
Robert Täht was in superb form for Estonia, as the game’s main scorer with 16 kills.
Even though they are one of the two rookies of this year’s World League, Estonia already proved they’re up to the challenge and a gold medal would be the icing on the cake for them. Thinking on the upcoming match against Spain already, coach Gheorghe Cretu expressed:
“We will face a team with similar qualities than Mexico, as Spain play fast volleyball, keeping the ball alive and working each point. They have good defenders and for sure is going to be a very interesting game.”
Sunday will be the final day of action not only at Domo de la Feria but also of the whole Group 3. The first act will feature Mexico and Germany going for the bronze medal at 4 PM (local), preparing the stage for the grand finale - Spain against Estonia at 6.30 PM (local) to crown the new champion.
