Our younger players helped: Korea captain Lee

Korea coach Kim Ho Chul celebrates with his players

Takasaki, Japan, June 10, 2017 – Korea captain Sun Kyu Lee admitted his side struggled at times in the 3-2 (25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 17-25, 15-12) win against Turkey on Saturday but said his team were boosted by performances from some of their younger players.

Korea captain Lee Sun Kyu: We played our best but we struggled in the third and fourth set. In the fifth set, we played very well and I am satisfied with the result. Our young players brought a good mood to the match and we enjoyed it. Tomorrow's game against Japan will be tough.

Turkey captain Arsian Eksi: We could not play well in the first set. In the third and fourth sets our reception was much better. We must play better against Slovenia if we are to win. They are a strong team. We must win to qualify for the finals. Korea played very well today.

Korea coach Kim Ho Chul: Yesterday and today we had tough five-set matches. Turkey have good players and plays at a high level. We could not control our service reception in the third and fourth sets. We tried to stay with the same players during the fifth set and that made the difference. We have tried to fit in a European style to our game.

Turkey coach Joshko Milenkoski: We tried but definitely we were not ready for this game. We have not played our best. We have not been prepared well for this tournament.
