Otake helps Japan dominate 3-1 and snap Turkey’s three-match win streak

 

Issei Otake gave an all-out performance to help Japan win in four sets against an undefeated Turkish side

Takasaki, Japan, June 9, 2017 – Issei Otake delivered a 17-point contribution to help Japan dominate Turkey 3-1 (25-15, 26-24, 25-27, 25-16) in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League Group 2 at Takasaki Arena on Friday.

Otake’s 17 markers were built on 16 attacks and a block that sealed Japan’s first win over Turkey in the World League. Metin Toy led Turkey in scoring with 14 points, then Baturalp Burak Gungor added 13 points on a losing effort.

Japan snapped Turkey’s three-match winning streak in the World League after they started their campaign with victories over China, Egypt and the Netherlands.

Japan featured a balanced attack that resulted to a solid win. They took the initiative and established a 15-10 lead in the opening set with good combination plays. They kept the pressure on with strong serve and solid reception to take the set 25-15.



Japan prevailed 26-24 in the second set after a series of short and quick points, leading to multiple deadlocks and lead changes. Otake was a big factor with his attack and block.

Japan had two match points in the third set, but saw Turkey rise to the challenge with two straight blocks on Otake to claim in 27-25.
