Ngapeth opens his heart in revealing L'Equipe interview

Earving Ngapeth says extended contract with Modena will let him better balance family life with professional career.

Lausanne, Switzerland, April 4, 2017 - Extending his contract with Italy's defending champions Azimut Modena for another three years until 2020 is a turning point in the life of French international Earvin Ngapeth, according to an
extensive interview
(in French) the player gave to sports daily L'Equipe.

Ngapeth explains in the interview that he can now focus on a better balance between his family and his sporting career and compares his performance in the Italian Superleague and the European Champions League.

The 26-year-old outside hitter, who was born in Saint-Raphael, is the son of Eric, who played for France in the 1987 European Championship (earning a gold medal) and the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games, after coming over from his native Cameroon.

Earvin's younger brother Swan is also a professional volleyball player and has joined Earvin this season in Modena.

Earvin Ngapeth continues in his interview to explore the possibilities for France ahead of the 2018 FIVB World Championship. France are hosting Pool A of the 2nd Round of the European qualifiers later this month facing Turkey, Germany, Iceland, Azerbaijan and the Ukraine. The top team of the pool will get a direct ticket to the World Championship, which will be jointly hosted by Italy and Bulgaria. The second-ranked team will get another shot at one more spot available to Europe through Round 3 of the qualifiers.

Earvin Ngapeth was a leading force behind France's golden year of 2015, when they won the FIVB World Grand Prix after an amazing run through Group 2 and then through the Group 1 Final Six, followed by gold at the European Championship.

Beach Volleyball Invitational
After this year's FIVB World League obligations with France, Ngapeth plans to organise a beach volleyball invitational 12-13 July in Saint Jean-de-Monts on the Atlantic coast of France's Loire region.

This is a project close to his heart, Ngapeth concludes in his L'Equipe interview, which will bring together the best French players alongside many foreign stars.
