In 2016 Giani celebrated winning World League Group 3
Lausanne, Switzerland, January 26, 2017 – Andrea Giani has stepped down as head coach to the Slovenia men’s national team after leading the team to their greatest success.
In 2016 the Italian guided Slovenia as they won FIVB Volleyball World League Group 3 and then followed up by winning silver at the CEV European Championships. However, his contract ran out in July and he has decided not to renew it.
“I want to simply thank you for this opportunity you have given to me and for this great experience we lived together,” Giani said. “Through many sacrifices we created a team with a great identity. Today we can feel proud of what we have achieved and I hope it will serve to you to grow further in your future.”
Giani’s decision means that Slovenia now have a race against time to find a replacement for the man who took over from Luka Slabe in March 2015.

“Despite our efforts Andrea decided not to extend his contract as a head coach of our men’s team,” Slovenia Volleyball President Metod Ropret said.
“He took the decision yesterday evening, together with his staff. We are sincerely thankful to Andrea for everything that he has done for Slovenian volleyball and Slovenian sport.”
