Czechs target improvement despite home victory

The Czechs were in celebratory mood after their win

Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, June 9, 2017 – The Czech Republic’s players and staff are targeting an improved performance against the Netherlands on Saturday, despite their (22-25, 25-21,23-25, 25-23, 16-14) win over Egypt on Friday.

Ales Holubec, Czech Republic, captain: “It’s difficult to judge today. I think it’s very important we won today, despite few people believing we could swing the match. It’s positive we changed practically all our players and I hope tomorrow’s going to be a better day. We all know it wasn’t the best game we can produce.”

Miguel Angel Falasca, Czech Republic head coach: “We are happy that we won, though it was a little bit of a nervous performance and it clearly influenced our game. However, it’s important victory for us.”

Abdelhay Ahmed, Egypt captain: “Today we did everything to win. All four sets were close and tight, nevertheless we lost the match in tie-break. We had a significant lead at 9-4 and we still lost. It was a critical moment, but we unfortunately failed.”

Ibrahim Fakhreldin, Egypt head coach: “We played well, possibly our best. We need to keep working and prepare for our next matches.”
