The Czech Republic delighted their home fans with a victory over Egypt

Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, June 9, 2017 -  The Czech Republic returned to winning ways in the 2017 FIVB World League when they defeated Egypt 3-2 (22-25, 25-21,23-25, 25-23, 16-14) in front of their homes fans on Friday.

It now means that they have won two of their four matches in Group 2, with clashes against the Netherlands and Portugal still to come over the next two days.

Michal Finger and Petr Michalek led the way for the Czech Republic by scoring 14 points apiece, but the Egyptians showed the class within their ranks as Ahmed Abdelhay scored 22 points and Abd Elhalim Mohamed Abou weighed in with 18.

The Czechs took advantage of Egypt’s lack of concentration at the start of the match and quickly built a five-point advantage. Their errors allowed Egypt to work their way back into the match and they fought back to win the opening set 25-22.

Egypt continued their form into the second set and soon built up an 8-4 lead. The Czechs rediscovered their rhythm and led 15-10, but the teams exchanged points before the Czechs raised their pace to draw level with the second set.

The visitors took advantage of the hosts mistake to open a 2-1 lead, but in the fourth the Czech’s block defence made the difference to allow them to tie up at 2-2.

In the tie-break Egypt started the stronger and led 9-4, but again the Czech Republic dug deep to find their form and overcome their opponents to take the match.
