Best Players – Boyer tops scoring game, leads France to seventh win

 

Stephen Boyer sits on top of the scoring charts as he led France to earn its seventh win in eight matches in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World League

Lausanne, Switzerland, June 18, 2017 – Stephen Boyer of France hold the top spot as best scorer across all groups in the FIVB Volleyball World League; with a total of 151 points, which he built on 124 spikes, 12 blocks and 15 service aces.

World League

The French opposite scored 25 points on Saturday, to lead France to its seventh win in Group 1, following their straight-set win over Canada. He has been France’s go-to player, who has been prolific in scoring in their last seven outings.



Trailing Boyer in the best scorer category is the United StatesTaylor Sander, who scored the most points on Saturday. Sander charted 28 points in their five-set loss to Russia. He is tied in second place with Bulgarian superstar Tsvetan Sokolov. Both have a total of 129 points in eight matches.

Boyer is also on top of the best server list with a total of 15 aces in eight matches. He has shown fine form all throughout the preliminary round for France, which are hoping to match their 2015 achievement and climb the top podium once again this year. Last year they missed the opportunity to win the title, but still managed to finish with a bronze medal.



Another French player, Julien Lyneel, has been consistent from the attack line with a 57.39 success rate, behind him is Marko Ivovic of Serbia, which averaged 54.61 from the three-metre line. Their performances reflect their team’s standing, as France and Serbia are first and second in the Group 1 standing, respectively.

Nikolay Nikolov of Bulgaria is still the best blocker in Group 1 with 25 stuff blocks, followed closely by Ilyas Kurkaev of Russia who had 22 blocks, including his six blocks in their match against the USA on Saturday.

World League

Brazil’s Bruno Rezende is on top of the best setter category, with a setting average of 6.22 per set. Iran’s Mir Saeid Marouflakrani is the second best playmaker with an average of 5.55 per set.

Canadian libero Blair Cameron Bann is the king of floor defence as he holds on to his reign in the best digger category, while Mauricio Silva emerged as the best receiver in Group 1.

In Group 2, Chuan Jiang of China still overshadowed Wouter Ter Maat of the Netherlands as best scorer. The Chinese opposite amassed 140 points, including his 23-point performance in China’s 3-1 win over Australia in Kunshan. Ter Maat has 129 points so far in the tournament.

World League

Ter Maat, however, is the more efficient spiker. The Dutch opposite is third in the best spiker list behind Australia’s Nathan Roberts and Japan’s Masahiro Yanagida.

World League

Yanagida helped Japan in their 3-2 win over Turkey on Saturday, as he scored five aces, making him the top server in the group. His team-mate Naonobu Fujii is Group 2’s top play director with a high setting average of 9.88 per set.

In Group 3, Andres Villena of Spain becomes the best scorer in the group as he garnered 111 points from 97 spikes, nine blocks and five aces. Villena tallied 22 points against in their semifinal match-up against Germany, which led to a stunning straight-set win for the Spaniards.

World League

Ardo Kreek of Estonia helped his team reach the Group 3 finals on their debut with a total of 19 stuff blocks. Kreek is the top net defender of the European side that defeated Mexico in the second semifinal match.

Mexico captain and setter Pedro Rangel is Group 3’s best server with 16 aces.
